Tips for a Stress-Free Move with Children
Moving into a new house with your family can be daunting, and especially stressful.
Packing all fo your belongings into cardboard boxes can be a long process that is made even longer if you have children running about. Unfortunately, packing isn’t the only difficult task you’d be facing, you will also be facing the challenge of leaving behind the place your children grew up and were comfortable.
There are, however, ways to make the moving process simpler for your family which you can find out if you continue reading!
Clear the house
A few weeks prior to packing, think strategically and plan to clear the house of unwanted items, or those that haven’t been used for a while. No matter if it’s old furniture, kitchen appliances or other random things that have been stowed away in the attic. It will save time during the packing and unpacking process, to go through things twice will be more of a pain when all you want to do is unpack your belongings and relax in your house.
Talk with your children
There will come a time you will need to tell your children about your plans for the move. You need to allow enough time for them to digest the information you are telling them and let out their emotions; bear in mind they will also have many questions that you will need to be prepared to answer.
Visit your new home
When you can, it is worthwhile to take your children on a visit to the new house. You may need to ask your realtor prior to taking them and ask if you can do a quick tour of the house.
Also, take your children around their soon-to-be neighbourhood to assimilate them to their surroundings.
Unpack their room
Once you have arrived at your new home, spend time with your children to unpack their room first to make them feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. This will allow them to adjust and get a feel for their new room. This will also work in your favour to get the rest of the boxes unpacked for the house while your children take a nap or relax in their new room.
