What should you do before a big move?
What steps should you take to plan your big move?
Moving home can be a stressful time for anybody, especially when you’re trying to plan out what exactly should be done and when! We’ve compiled a list of things you should be doing before your big move, so you don’t have to! Read on into our latest blog to get a moving out plan just for you!
Six to four weeks before the big move, you should:
Clean out your cupboards, wardrobes, drawers, garage, loft and everywhere that will need a considerable clean up! This will remove the need to rush packing your items away nearer the time.
Change the address of your monthly subscription magazines and also the companies that send you mail: your bank, bills that are sent through the post, the address on your driving license and registration, passport and more! This is an important task, as your items and information could fall into the wrong hands.
Get into contact with your insurance company, who’ll be able to set up an insurance policy for your new home in time and cancel your old policies on your moving day.
Get a moving company! Some may overlook this eventuality, but moving companies are incredibly busy all year round and are booked in advance. Remember to get your booking in early to ensure that on moving day, you actually have someone who’s going to move you!
Two/three weeks before moving day, you should:
It’s a good idea to keep the records of your moving expenses in a safe place! This way, if they’re needed in future, you can deduct them from your income taxes in some cases, which is a massive help to yourself.
Ensure that all of the packaging for the boxes is continuously being completed. Remember to label all of the boxes clearly with what rooms they’ll be going in, so it’s easier to store boxes when you first move in to the relevant rooms compared to opening them all. Even marking boxes with “fragile” is a great way to prevent damages to your items!
Ensure that all appliance in your home is a good working order, as you will need to make repairs to your home before you sell the house if there are broken items around.
So, the big day is drawing ever closer… What should you remember a week before? There are some things you must do in order to ensure the smooth transition from your current home to your new one, and they are as follows:
One week before moving day, please remember to:
Be sure that your home has a deep clean, this will remove the need of doing this task on moving day.
If you have either small children or pets, it’s a good idea to arrange for them to be with a sitter on moving day, as this will free up a lot of time and effort of looking after them in the move.
If you’re looking to change a number of factors in your new home, you should consider booking contractors or painters in advance to ensure they’re free when the time comes.
